This has been a great book to work in - thanks Shelly. The text within the work explains it all.

  1. Helen, what wonderful memories! using the small postage stamp format really tells a story! then also to read the story and see how the recipe comes together...great stuff!! You have such a rich and interesting life! I could practically smell the bottling of tomatoes, my grandmother and mother used to bottle fruit, like apricots and peaches so yummy!

  2. Helen...what a lovely document of special memories! I hope you've kept a good copy of those book pages for youself. I was struck by the influence of those POW's on your family - for generations...and they would never have known! I've been reminded before that our actions can leave a tremendous impression on people - often when we are totally oblivious to the fact!
I think I'm off to cook up some spaghetti for our dinner...it sounded soo good...the glass of red wine I could imagine with it was pretty appealing too!

  3. What a fabulous memory Helen and so good to try to recreate it in this way. I remember my Mum and my sister growing lots of different herbs, one of which was Borage which we deep fried to eat. Lol. Fancy deep frying herbs! Ha... I'm still laughing. Jen

  4. Wonderful warm story. really precious. Spaghetti was my favourite dinner as a child, as well. Mum made it nice too but with mince. Thanks for the story, the pics look suitably retro. Nice! Donna
